about
I wrote One With My Enemy about a complicated relationship I had with someone who slowly chipped away at my self esteem, tarnishing my name so that when finally I found the strength to cut ties, no one would ever believe me. I sat on that pain for a long time, but finally, I've come to a point where I can accept that I'm the only one who needs to know the truth. I believe myself, and when you've been tricked into second guessing yourself for so long, there can be so much power in that statement. I hope this song will resonate with others, and that you might find some catharsis.
lyrics
A hand; a noose to pull me under
You speak and I surrender
Your grip is growing tighter
And only time will tell
Which of us will be the victor
Perfect as a picture
An innocent protector
You know me so damn well
You know me so damn well
You can’t hurt what you can’t see
So I’ll just disappear
Retreat inside of me
Hide from my enemy
You can’t fear what you can’t know
So I’ll just bury my head in the sand
Cause never will I understand
How you could become my enemy
A break; a fracture in our trust
Things I don’t recall but I guess
I must have done
For you to dim the sun
Draining the warmth from your smile
A brand; a marking for my shame
When you have rigged the game
Against me, so they resent me
Am I so far gone to denial?
Slowly, you chipped away what’s left
You’ve been eroding me with your every word
Since the day we met and I couldn’t see
Because I didn’t want to believe
That you could become my enemy
You can’t hurt what you can’t see
So I’ll just disappear
Retreat inside of me
Hide from my enemy
You can’t fear what you can’t know
So I’ll just bury my head in the sand
Cause never will I understand
How you could become my enemy
You can’t hurt what you can’t see
So I’ll just disappear
Retreat inside of me
Hide from my enemy
You can’t fear what you can’t know
So I’ll just bury my head in the sand
Cause never will I understand
How I became one with my enemy
